The muffle flashed. The bullet went through her left shoulder narrowly missing bone. She fell to the floor in pain. She reached for the handle of the oven as she slipped in her own blood and struggled to her feet. The woman took a look at the face of her would-be assassin. Her heart sank.

“You don’t understand, Dad, art is my life!” the son screamed.

“I understand more about life than you’ll ever know!” was his father’s retort.

A chair flew across the kitchen floor as the son rose abruptly from the table. He ignored the yells of his father and the pleading cries of his mother as he stormed into his room. This was the aftermath of yet another almost cliche argument between the father and son over the boy’s grades.

Hello everyone! As part of Short Story Saturday, I have posted another short story, this one entitled Please Call Me Daddy. Please enjoy.

“Looking for a good time?” He wasn’t really. The man was looking forward to resting his head for the night.

The cliché question attested to the sophisticated nature, or lack thereof, of the establishment that the man would rest his head for the evening. It was a gray-bricked dilapidated hotel in the outskirts of the City of Sin, on a street frequented by various vagrants including drug addicts, homeless men, and perhaps the occasional felon or two trying to escape from the law.

Arthur and Merlin approached the oblong, white-bricked tower. The two had journeyed far and had overcome many perils to reach this place. Their goal was to reach the top. What Arthur sought awaited him there. Dangling around his neck was a silver locket.
