The muffle flashed. The bullet went through her left shoulder narrowly missing bone.

She fell to the floor in pain. Slipping in her blood as she reached for the handle of the oven to lift herself to her feet, the woman took a look at the face of her would-be assassin. Her heart sank.

“You don’t understand, Dad, art is my life!” the son screamed.

“I understand more about life than you’ll ever know!” was his father’s retort.

A chair flew across the kitchen floor as the son rose abruptly from the kitchen table. He ignored the yells of his father and the pleading cries of his mother as he stormed into his room. This was the aftermath of yet another argument between the father and son over the boy’s grades.

Hello everyone! As part of Short Story Saturday, I have posted another short story, this one entitled Please Call Me Daddy. Please enjoy.

“Looking for a good time?” He wasn’t really. The man was looking forward to resting his head for the night.

The cliché question attested to the sophisticated nature, or lack thereof, of the establishment that the man would reside for the evening. It was a gray-bricked dilapidated hotel in the outskirts of the City of Sin, on a street frequented by various vagrants including drug addicts, homeless men, and perhaps the occasional felon or two trying to escape from the law.

Hello everyone! As part of Short Story Saturday, I have posted another short story, this one entitled Online Dating Really is an Adventure. Please enjoy. Warning: Unlike some stories, there is some rough language and a description of a pretty rough scene. Honestly, my use of expletives and said scene are probably mild by Internet standards but are much more explicit than I usually have in my stories. Discretion is advised. I truly hope I didn’t overuse cursing in this story but used it enough to feel somewhat realistic. Please let me know.

“Hi, you must be Latoya,” I said after I exited my blue Honda accord which I parked next to the ebony beauty waiting for me at the entrance of the Tacoma Mall. In her hands were a large black duffle bag and a brown paper bag with the initials “REI” in blue printed on both sides.

I was both nervous and excited about the prospect of going out with such a beautiful woman of color and such a progressive one too. Her online profile listed a lot of social justice causes. It was sure to be an experience that I would never forget.

Hello everyone! As part of Short Story Saturday, I have posted another short story, this one entitled The Price of Victory. Loosely inspired by this prompt: https://www.writersdigest.com/prompts/soccer-threat. Please enjoy.

It was an insult. A travesty. An outrage. To do such a thing to the world’s greatest goalkeeper, Juan Carlos Gabriel Martinez was unforgivable.

They were bluffing. They must have been. The very gall, the very cheek of merely threatening to conduct such a heinous crime to an unparalleled star was a slap in the face. To actually go through with it was inconceivable.

Hello everyone! As part of Short Story Saturday, I have posted another short story, this one entitled A Silly Blog Post. Please enjoy.

I just wanted to entertain people. I never expected a blatantly farcical blog post to somehow get a life of its own. It was never supposed to be taken seriously. I was frustrated with the team and wanted to write something silly to blow off some steam.

“I think you’ll like what’s inside,” said the auburn-haired, bushy-bearded man as he handed a beaten up envelope to the glowering man standing stood crossed arms in front of his fancy two-story abode. “Sorry, it got all messed up and stuff. It’s been sittin’ in my pocket since this mornin’. Meant ta give it to ya then but I forgot. Sorry about that Corny.”

“It’s Cornelius,” the clean-shaven blonde man replied as he removed one arm from his chest to take the envelope out of his neighbor’s hand, “I wait to see its contents with breathless anticipation, Timothy.”
